Safety orientation
As a safety-conscious institution, VCU has designed online training sessions to help protect you in your work.

All new faculty and staff are required to complete the online safety awareness orientation prior to or no later than their first day of employment. Training includes basic fire and chemical safety and covers the “Employee Right-to-Know.”
In your orientation materials, you will receive a safety awareness book complete with emergency numbers and information. Print the post-video test/work-area orientation form and the worker’s right-to-know statement
, complete and have your supervisor maintain these documents in your personnel file.

- The VCUPD emergency number is (804) 828-1234, regardless of campus location.
- The VCU Escort Service is available to all employees, regardless of campus location, from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily. To access the service, dial (804) VCU-WALK (828-9255).
- The VCU Medical Center hospital emergency room — open 24 hours a day, seven days a week — is staffed with hospital security and VCU Police. Hospital security coordinates operational efforts with the VCUPD, meaning employees can request hospital security to contact the VCUPD for them by police radio.
