External Consulting
VCU's Human Resource Office of Training and Development staff meet the University's faculty and staff training needs by delivering open enrollment workshops each semester and through customized departmental consultations/training. In addition, Training and Development staff provide external consulting to other state agencies or outside organizations.
When it is necessary to call on external sources to meet a particular training need, our Training and Development staff are ready to serve as a resource for external consulting. Here are some instances when external consulting might be the best option:
Sometimes a customer's needs may be best met through a partnership between our staff and external experts; for example, for certain reengineering and business process redesign requirements. In such cases, customers benefit from our staff's knowledge of, and credibility within, the organization, combined with the expertise and objectivity of an outside consultant.
If the customer requests a guest speaker for an event or requests an expert from outside the University on a particular topic, our staff can coordinate the process, utilizing their extensive network of local, state and national contacts.
When requested computer training is unavailable through the University, we can coordinate training through the J. Sergeant Reynolds Center for Corporate Development.
Our staff can help arrange to supplement the offerings on the open enrollment schedule to meet customer demand.
Training staff can put customers in touch with county, city, and state resources for adult literacy training and related offerings. For more information about our external consulting, e-mail Training and Development at traindev@vcu.edu or call (804) 828-0179.
