VCU Human Resources' Professional Development Certificate Program offers faculty and staff the opportunity to enhance their skills, knowledge, and abilities through the development of organizational competencies.
The following are just some of the many advantages of participating in the program:
There are no required or elective courses -- participants earn their certificates based on the number of hours they complete in the new program.
You and your manager decide which training workshops are best suited for you and and/or your staff needs.Course content focuses on achieving certain organizational competencies.
All open enrollment courses and some departmental workshops count toward the Professional Development Certificate.
Three progressive levels allow for continued skill development beyond options previously available under the former Supervisory Certificate
and Office Staff Certificate programs.
Organizational competencies are a cluster of related knowledge, attitudes, and skills that impact a major part of one's job. Take a closer look at the organizational competencies that structure the certificate program.
All courses are designed around competencies that allow participants and their managers to select courses based on individual performance plans.
Participants work in three progressive levels toward the Certificate in Professional Development.Level One
Awarded after 55 hours of trainingLevel Two
Awarded after an additional 25 hours of training (for a total 80 hours)Level Three
Awarded after an additional 30 hours of training (for a total of 110 hours)Note: Classes taken prior to enrollment into the program do not count toward the certificate.
What happens to participants enrolled in the former certificate programs?
Most current participants will enter the program working toward the Level One Certificate. A participant with significant documented educational and developmental accomplishments may be eligible to enter the program at Level Two or Level Three. E-mail traindev@vcu.edu for assistance.
Do departmental training and outside workshops count toward the certificate?
Participants may apply a total of 30% of hours taken in HR-facilitated departmental training or from workshops taken outside of VCU.The following documentation is required: a training session certificate or an e-mail confirmation of attendance from the training sponsor (i.e., department or company offering the training). The documentation should include: class name, date, time, verification of completion, and sponsor name.
Note: CommonHealth courses or courses not geared specifically toward career development (i.e., orientation, duplicate classes, etc.) do not count toward certificate credit hours.
