Through certificates of commendation and monetary awards, this program recognizes customer service skills and successful accomplishments that improve communication, productivity, and human relations among members of the University community.

September Convocation
Each year at Convocation, formal tribute is made to teaching faculty members who exemplify what is best about the University.
Four professors receive Distinguished Faculty Awards in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service, and overall excellence.
Dorris Douglas Budd Award (DDB) Established in 1981, this award honors a VCU or VCU Health System support staff member who demonstrates exemplary performance (see Chair's communication).

Employee Suggestion Program (ESP)
Faculty and Staff
Year-round
The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) administers the Employee Suggestion Program (ESP). The program is designed to recognize and encourage development of ideas to improve business operations.
Employees must identify specific issues above and beyond basic job requirements and propose valid solutions to increase productivity, reduce costs, provide safer working conditions, or expedite public services.
If suggestions are adopted, employees may receive either cash or non-cash awards in recognition of their creativity and initiative.

Multicultural Enrichment (PACME)Faculty, Staff, Administrators,
and StudentsSpring
Formal tribute is made to members of the University community whose efforts enhance and raise awareness toward diversity and commitment to affirmative action ideals, goals, and principles across boundaries and cultures.
Four individual monetary awards are presented to a faculty member, staff member, student, and administrator. From this group, the prestigious Riese-Melton monetary award is given for contributions to cross-cultural relations.Recognition Awards for Classified Staff
Classified Staff Quarterly Recognition awards for classified staff are part of VCU's Classified Compensation Plan.

University Safety Awareness Awards
Radiation Safety Award - This award is given to a laboratory in recognition of outstanding performance in the area of radiation safety. The basis for the award is the review of laboratory practices as specified by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's regulations and VCU's Radiation Safety Guidelines.
Laboratory Safety Award - This award is given to a laboratory in recognition of outstanding performance in the area of laboratory safety. The basis for the award is the review of laboratory practices as specified by the OSHA Laboratory Safety Standard.
Occupational Safety Award - This award is given to an individual in recognition of outstanding performance in the area of occupational safety as it relates to workers and visitors injuries. The basis for the award is the review of efforts made in reducing injuries or the likelihood of injuries within the working environment.
Virginia Public Service Week (VPSW)
Classified Staff May Virginia Public Service Week (VPSW) is celebrated annually in the Commonwealth and includes presentation of Governor's Awards to outstanding state employees.
The awards program also selects employee "Ambassadors" from around Virginia to participate in the awards ceremony.
