Virginia Commonwealth University

                       On-Line Safety Orientation

Welcome to this important phase of your Orientation!  As a safety-conscientious institution, VCU has

designed these on-line training sessions to help protect you in your work.

Safety Awareness  [from VCU's Office of Environmental Health and Safety]

All new faculty and staff are required to complete the on-line VCU Safety Awareness Orientation.  This training must be completed prior to or no later than your first day of employment.  Training includes basic fire safety and chemical safety - "Employee Right-to-Know."

Here's what you need to do:

In your orientation materials, you will receive a Safety Awareness Book complete with emergency numbers and information.  Print the Post-Video Test/Work Area Orientation form and the Worker's Right-to-Know Statement from the links provided on this Web site, complete as follows, and have your supervisor maintain these documents in your personnel file.

  • First - Log in and view the on-line Safety Awareness Orientation.*  At the end of the viewing, answer the quiz questions and press the "Submit" button.  (Want a copy for your records?  Press the Print icon on Internet Explorer before you press "Submit.")

*You will need RealPlayer and sound to view and hear this presentation.  You'll have

an opportunity to download this application after you log in.

  • Next - Complete the Work Area Orientation form with your supervisor.  This information is designed to familiarize you with your new surroundings.

  • Finally - Complete the Worker's Right-to-Know Statement with your supervisor.  This information explains what types of hazards are in your work area and how to protect yourself.

If you have any questions about the VCU Safety Awareness Orientation, contact the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) at 827-0357.  For more information, see also the OEHS Web site.
