* VCU’s 2013-2014 Winter Closing (Dec. 21, 2013 through Jan. 1, 2014) requires eligible faculty and staff to use 8 hours of leave (with or without pay) to cover the time away from work on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013. Note: Jan. 1, 2014 is part of VCU's 2014 holiday calendar. VCU resumes normal business operations on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

In 2012, the governor approved 16 hours of additional holiday leave for eligible state employees. At VCU, these 16 hours of additional holiday leave accrued as two 8-hour floating holidays effective with the Dec. 25, 2012 pay period and they must be used by Dec. 24, 2013 or they will expire.

  • Current employees are strongly encouraged to save at least one of the two 8-hour floating holidays to cover the 8 hours of leave required for Dec. 23, 2013 (as part of VCU's 2013-2014 winter closing: Dec. 21, 2013 through Jan. 1, 2014).
  • New employees are strongly encouraged to save 8 hours of personal/family or annual leave to cover the 8 hours of leave required for Dec. 23, 2013 (as part of VCU's 2013-2014 winter closing: Dec. 21, 2013 through Jan. 1, 2014).

Please note: The holiday schedule above does not apply to VCU Health System employees, as those employees are covered by their Paid Time Off (PTO) program that combines annual, sick and holiday leave.
