Safety orientation

As a safety-conscious institution, VCU has designed online training sessions to help protect you in your work.

All new faculty and staff are required to complete the Online Safety Awareness course in Blackboard, review the VCU Safety Awareness Handbook and Worker's Right-to-Know brochure, and complete, with your supervisor, the Worker's Right-to-Know Statement. After completion, maintain the original signed statement in your deparment/unit employee files and send a copy to OEHS (Box 990112 or fax to 828-1157).

To complete the Online Safety Awareness Orientation, log in to Blackboard ( to enroll. You will need your VCU eID and password. Once in Blackboard, go to the "Courses" tab and type “Safety Awareness” in the Course Search box, then click “GO.” Next, click on the arrow beside the course ID number (TRAIN-Safe-001-2012Continuous) and select "Enroll."   • VCU Security Escort Service 
    • Monroe Park Campus: VCU Parking and Transportation provides free evening shuttle service, RamSafe, which runs daily from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. to on-campus locations and nearby residences and buildings. You can access RamSafe by calling (804) 828-SAFE (828-7233) or at At the RamSafe website, enter your VCU eID and password. You will then be asked to provide the following information: 
      • Current location and contact phone number
      • Desired destination
      • Number of people in your group
    • MCV Campus: Call (804) 828-WALK (828-9255). This free service, which is available daily from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., provides a safe ride to campus locations for any student, faculty or staff employee with a valid VCUCard ID.
  • VCU Health's Medical Center hospital emergency room — open 24 hours a day, seven days a week — is staffed with hospital security and VCU Police. Hospital security coordinates operational efforts with the VCUPD, meaning employees can request hospital security to contact the VCUPD for them by police radio.
