Acrobat Reader Download Assistance
Many websites, including the VCU Human Resources site, use Adobe Acrobat software to save files in .pdf format (portable document format). This means that the document will look exactly like the original and not formatted as a webpage. In order to view and print these documents online, you will need to use the Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free downloadable software.
If you do not have a copy currently installed on your pc, you can download a free copy from the Adobe website. This is a one time process which will then allow you to view and print these and other similarly formatted publications on the internet. Please follow the installation and browser configuration instructions below.
Here are step-by-step instructions for downloading the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Register on-line (don't forget to hit the submit form button to send info to Adobe).
- Choose the version of the program you wish to download (the default is Acrobat Reader for Windows 95 in English); click "download" button.
- Choose "Download ar32e302.exe (or whatever the current version of this program is being called) from USA".
- The "save as" screen will suggest a directory to save this installation file to - generally c:\program files\netscape\navigator (or communicator, depending on your version of Netscape) \program\ or program\plugins. Make a note so you'll know where to go later in the process.
- As the installation file is being saved to your hard-drive, you will see a screen indicating the status of the download procedure (45% complete, etc.). When the download is complete, this screen will disappear.
- Close Netscape.
- Open Windows Explorer (or choose "Run" from the Start directory) and double-click on the name of the installation file in the directory listed above.
- An "installation wizard" will assist you in installing the Acrobat Reader program. You will be asked several questions, such as What directory should this program be stored in?, and will suggest answers. Accept these suggested options.
- When the installation is completed, reboot your computer and open Netscape again. When you attempt to open a .pdf (portable document file), your Acrobat Reader will open automatically to let you view and print this document.
Go to the Adobe Acrobat site to download this program.
