Pay Band 1

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

Positions in pay band 1 typically have the following characteristics:

·         Most routine and very specific, well-defined tasks, narrow in scope. 

·         Work that is typically manual.

 

·         Closely supervised.  

·         Limited skills needed to qualify. 

 

Some typical job titles include: 

-         Groundskeepers

-         Recycling Attendants

-         Office Services Aides

 

*Note:  Minimum of VCU pay band 1 is different from the state minimum of pay band 1.  It was raised to $8.25 per hour, effective April 10, 2006. 

 

 

Pay Band 2

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

Positions in pay band 2 typically have the following characteristics:

·         Entry level, general administrative tasks.

·         Range from routine tasks to tasks of moderate difficulty, but more varied.

·         Uses some judgment, some choices.  Usually follows unit-related processes. 

 

·         Receives general supervision

·         Require some experience to qualify (computer skills, cash handling, etc.)

-         Office Services Assistant

-         Office Services Specialist

-         Office Clerk

-         Lab Technician (under direction of Lab Spec, simple lab procedures, lab maintenance)

-         Fiscal Assistant

Pay Band 3

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

Positions in pay band 3 typically have the following characteristics:

·         Interprets and applies policies, procedures and/or has a compliance function. 

·         Works somewhat independently. 

·         More critical consequences of errors. 

·         Judgment is an important factor. 

 

·         Broad range of contacts; outside contacts often require confidentiality. 

·        May lead or supervise staff.

·         Requires knowledge of the policies and procedures of program area where assigned.

·         Requires higher education and experience, typically a degree.

·         Requires extensive technical knowledge of the assigned area.
