As a part of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, VCU provides the following required information to participants in the State Health Benefits Program.  

The two documents listed below describe provisions to safeguard the privacy of your protected health information.  Federal HIPAA regulations provide certain protections to patients who are insured under covered plans.  For example, they limit who can inquire about your protected health information.

The Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) follows these policies in managing the Commonwealth's health benefits program.
